Folklore Day in Middelburg 2025

The annual two Folklore Days in Middelburg bring Zeeland's traditions to life. Enjoy exciting competitions, beautifully decorated horses, and participants in traditional costumes. An event full of culture, sport, and fun!

What can you expect during the Folklore Day in Middelburg?

Ring Riding: Participants gallop on their horses through the arena and try to catch a ring with a lance. Exciting to watch, especially when the rings get smaller!
Sulky Riding: In this traditional sport, participants attempt to catch the ring from a sulky, a flower-decorated cart, pulled by beautifully braided horses.
Traditional Costumes: The drivers and passengers wear authentic Zeeland regional costumes, creating a colorful and atmospheric setting.
Exciting Finals: After a day full of competition, it becomes even more thrilling as the best participants fight with increasingly smaller rings. The final tossing of the winners is a spectacle not to be missed!
Two Locations and Dates:
- 1st Folklore Day (in July): On and around the Abdijplein with ring riding and sulky riding.
- 2nd Folklore Day (in August): At the Molenwater with the Zeeland Championship of ring riding and the battle for the royal cup.
