Where is the yew tree from the painting The Grey Tree by Piet Mondrian located?
-
According to tradition, Piet Mondrian painted this large yew (Taxus baccata) tree in 1911 at the Berkenbosch estate in Oostkapelle. It is situated near his summer residence in the artist village of Domburg. He called the painting: The Grey Tree.
Remarkably, the yew tree today still closely resembles the painting from 1911. Mondrian's distinctive abstracting style was still developing, allowing the tree to be easily recognized.
